A spectacular region, centred on the resort town of Port Macquarie, featuring golden beaches, beautiful hinterland, national parks, rivers, tranquil seaside villages and inland country towns. From Port Macquarie; south to the seaside villages of North Haven and Laurieton; west to the township of Wauchope and its spectacular hinterland community; north to Kempsey; coastal towns Crescent Head and South West Rocks, the region offers visitors and locals a diverse range of things to see and enjoy.

Now home to the Australian Ironman Triathlon among other spectacular water events, the region is a mecca for sunlovers and sportspersons alike with a superb climate year round.

There are more than 35 local restaurants in Port Macquarie alone, and the fresh seafood, particularly oysters, make for great dining. Explore the fabulous North Coast Wine Trail, offering great wines, food, gifts, and entertainment.

There's plenty of good fishing or you can discover sub tropical rainforests from scenic lookouts and bushwalk past waterfalls and clear mountain springs. Enjoy fantastic whale watching during June/July for the Humpbacks Northern Migration and September to November for their Southern Migration.

Excellent schools, TAFE, Adult Community College, and a Newcastle University Campus provide education at all levels. Child care facilities abound and the expansion of health care amenities and local hospitals has been a priority for State and Federal representatives.

The Macleay Valley Coast's commercial origins in timber-getting and dairy farming can still be seen in it's historic landscape. Abandoned farm houses and sheds tell stories of its pioneering past. Travel the "Slim Dusty Way" from the Pacific Highway at Kempsey to explore his childhood tramping ground.

Crescent Head is tucked into the lee of Big Nobby and is hemmed on the south by Goolawah Reserve and Limeburners Creek Nature Reserve that protect spectacular rock formations, beaches, heathlands and wetlands.

North lies Hat Head, the closest point on the Australian coast to the continental shelf and as such is one of the country's premier fishing destinations. The Hat Head National Park stretches all the way to South West Rocks where the Trial Bay Jail dominates the headland and scuba divers from all over the world travel to dive at Fish Rock Cave, just off the coast of Smoky Cape.

Further north the Coffs Harbour region is another of Australia's most popular holiday resort areas. With its abundant beachfront holiday apartments, motels, caravan parks and backpacker accommodation. This area boasts great restaurants, activities & attractions and the spectacular Dorrigo National Park and Solitary Islands Marine Park.
